Brief History

Kansas City’s origins date as far back as the early 1800s. History says that French fur traders via the Missouri River founded the town in 1838.

Our city was incorporated in 1853, eight years before it became the 34th state.   We took the city name from the Kansas River.

Originally called the City of Kansas, it became Kansas City in 1889. Jazz music later emerged during the 1920s and 30’s – making artists such as Lester Young (American saxophonist) famous.

Today, we’re famous for our world-famous steaks & barbecue. Many call our city the “Barbecue Capital.”

We’re known for our burnt ends, signature cut of steak, cheesy corn, and chicken spiedini.
